Engineering Manager

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Location: South London


Principle Accountabilities:

  • To manage the day to day operation of the Engineering Department

  • To ensure that safe systems of work are applied across all areas of the Department along with the associated Occupational Health & Safety policies

  • Chair weekly Engineering Reviews to ensure that projects remain on track and that any project slippages are communicated to the site management team

  • Develop automation strategies for continuous improvement as part of the sites Lean program

  • Provide quotations for both external and internal automation builds to support the commercial team

  • Provide presentations and support the commercial team as part of the business development process

  • Manage the procurement of externally sourced automation systems

  • Manage the design and deployment of end-of-arm tooling 

  • Work with the assigned Project Manager to ensure new or refurbished automation systems are delivered to site and validated against agreed project milestones

  • The will include the associated documentation and training to ensure the smooth transition to the Operations Department

  • Work with the Operations/ Manufacturing Departments to ensure production released automation systems maintain maximum uptime and quality performance

  • Develop User Requirement Specifications (URS) for new and refurbished automation builds

  • Working with the Quality Engineering Department to develop validation strategies for new and refurbished automation systems. Execute validation protocols against the stated project milestones

  • Ensure that automation systems are developed with the appropriate level of Preventative Maintenance and assign team members to complete PM against the stated schedule

  • Tracking will be recorded on the Quality Management System

  • Develop and train the Engineering Team using the businesses appraisal system along with regular one-on-one reviews 

  • This will cover both technical training along with company policies and procedures

  • Prepare a monthly Engineering Report for review and discussion during the monthly site Management Meeting

Secondary Accountabilities:

  • To provide monthly statistics covering department performance to the Managing Director

  • Continue to monitor automation system innovations to ensure new technology are understood and where appropriate introduced to the site

  • This will include technical publications, vendor visits and attendance of exhibitions

  • Develop a library of preferred vendors to ensure that the site has excess to a range of technologies and pricing strategies

Education and Experience:

  • 1st Class Honours Degree in an engineering discipline

  • Project Management

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems and ISO13485

  • Management and development of employees

  • IT skills including the full use of Microsoft Office
